THOR 2022 CLASS STRUCTURE & RULES

THOR’s 2022 Class Structure and Rules:

THOR Pro & Amateur I Rock Class

  • Slot cars will be supplied by THOR.
  • Slot cars will stay on their colored lane.
  • Controllers will stay on their lane.
  • The drivers will drive all lanes with the slot cars & controllers staying on their color from the start of racing.
  • Slot cars can be built to any class rules, including Hard Body, Super Stock, or Mod.
  • All slot cars will be tested by THOR creating a batch of cars that perform as close as possible to each other.
  • If a problem with a car occurs, THOR will handle the repairs.

THOR Pro & Amateur Hard Body Class

  • The goal for this class is to make the Super Stock cars we race now run with a hard body.
  • Legal chassis are: BSRT G3/G3R/G3RS/G3RSB, Slottech T3, Wizzard Storm/Fusion, Viper Scale Racing V1, & any production AFX, Tomy, Life Like, Auto World or Tyco chassis.
  • Armatures must be a production, machine wound red wire armature. Armature & electrical system may be stock, stock replacement, or commercially available. Armature cannot be less than 5.8 ohms measured pole to pole at room temperature. Hot stock, balanced & trued armature are okay.
  • Motor magnets must be OEM equivalent, per production AFX, Tomy, Life Like, Auto World or Tyco cars. That means ceramic motor magnets, OEM or aftermarket. Motor magnet max gauss 1250.
  • Traction magnets, (Tomy Super G+: upgrade Tomy or level 10 traction magnets). (Tomy Mega G 1.5 OR 1.7; upgrade NEO magnets, 48, 50 or 52 chrome or gold). (Tomy SRT; upgrade NEO traction magnets, 48, 50, 52 or Polymer magnet bar). (Tyco 440-X2; upgrade to BSRT #271). (Wizzard MHP 11B, HCS Pro-8 or Pro-10 Polymer traction magnets). Traction magnet max gauss 1680
  • Approved bodies, the body style will be announced prior to the race event. All racers will use the same body style when racing. Body style can be any style of Indy/F1, NASCAR, GTP, LMP etc. in hard plastic or resin. No LEXAN bodies are allowed.
  • The hard body must mount in original chassis position.
  • The hard body cannot be lightened. F1/Indy style bodies must start the race in stock condition, no broken wings or missing flaps allowed. If body parts break off during a race that body can continue in the race till the completion of that event.
  • Hard body can only be lowered utilizing a body clip, (like the Viper “lower” body clip or some other brand).
  • Rear rims are open.
  • Slip on rear tires are open. Sponge rear tires are not allowed.
  • Rear axle is open.
  • Rear crown gear is open.
  • Pinion gear is open.
  • Rear axle can be pinned.
  • Front O-ring tires are allowed.
  • No independent rotating front end.

  • Motor & traction magnets may be shimmed with non-conductive material, no glue.
  • Rear armature bearing or bushing may be used & glued in place.
  • Vacuum formed bodies are allowed.
  • Drilling for body mounting post is allowed.
  • The front wheels, tires & axle may be any readily available parts.
  • Any pinion or crown gear may be used.
  • Rear axle may be pinned for retention.
  • Only slip-on rear tires are allowed, no silicon sponge tires.

THOR Pro & Amateur Modified 10 Class, (MOD 10). (Level 10 motor & level 10 traction magnets)

  • Legal chassis are: BSRT G3/G3R/G3RS/G3RSB, Slottech T3, Wizzard Storm/Fusion, Viper Scale Racing V1, & any production AFX, Tomy or Tyco chassis.
  • Armatures are open to any ohm or gauge.
  • Helper springs or shims may be used in the Tomy endbell to ensure proper motor brush tension but cannot extend outside the endbell.
  • Adjustable brush barrels, motor bushings, & chassis clips are allowed.
  • Shunt wires are allowed.
  • The front wheels, tires & axle may be any readily available parts.
  • Rear armature bearing or bushing may be used & glued in place.
  • Motor magnets must be level 10 with a max gauss of 2000.
  • Traction magnets must be level 10th a max gauss of 2300.

This has already been tried before. SWMSRA did it years ago. The Magnets become
impossible to enforce because of the gauss readings vs the shape of the magnets.
The Peter Doane downforce meter may hold a better solution. A downforce limit for each class. A more exact measuring device may need to be developed. Today’s cars are very hard on molded plastic bodies made from styrene and ABS. Unless some Nylon hard bodies are introduced, people soon tire of exploding their favorite hard bodies.

I just saw this question this morning, sorry for the delayed response. I hear what you’re saying, the gauss reading test will work if we stay within cars that are readily available, such as the Viper, Fusion and BSRT cars. With the cars I just listed there is no way for a competitor to use a wider or longer magnet. Any other brand that might still be out their suck or getting the car or parts is just about impossible. We have an issue here with a couple drivers that have Slottech stuff from 10 years ago with parts that no one else can get. This is unfair to all the other competitors; this is what I am trying to fix. With the Viper, Fusion and BSRT cars I can easily test the gauss reading right before or after a race. I also have down force meters and yes that could also be a great way to control the magnets for each class. I also see the problem with the hard body classes, I see what some of these bodies sell for on EBay, crazy prices. Thank you for the insight.
